Amazon's Incredible Growth
This is the coolest chart I've seen in a while. Why is Amazon's growth so explosive when many e-commerce sites (e.g., Ebay) are down?
I choose Amazon as my primary e-commerce destination (Etsy is second) for several reasons:
- Amazing recommendation engine
- Trustworthy payment system
- Reliable delivery
- Helpful community of reviewers
- Free shipping (they always convince me to spend $25)
Other explanations?

The downturn arguably helps Amazon because they're known as one of the top sources of very low-priced merchandise coupled with a reliable brand. I imagine Wal-Mart is picking up share these days, too.
Is ebay really in that much trouble. They are still the mogul in the auction scene and they are still a quick and easy way to get started advertising products and services. I think they killed their own sales figures with all the changes they made that were adversarial to sellers which drove them away and in effect reduced the number of products available for buyers. Never the less, they are still doing pretty good.
